WordArt allowed users to create labels with different font sizes, styles and colors in a way that no typographer would ever approve. You could pick among lots of different visual styles. From a modern user's perspective this feature may seem ridiculous, but it was very successful at its time.

The reason was that WordArt gave users instant gratification.
